History
Meltem Kimya: From Past to Present
Foundation
Our company began commercial operations in 1976 and has continued its activities under the name Meltem Kimya A.Ş. since 2000.
Meltem Kimya
In 2000, Meltem Kimya became the first company in the world to produce recycled DOTP plasticizer recovered from polyester waste.
Subsequently, in addition to recycled plasticizer product groups, production of DOTP and DOA plasticizers from virgin raw materials began.
Türkiye's First PET Resin Plant Established with 100% Domestic Capital
In 2009, the company completed its investment in Türkiye's first PET resin plant established with 100% domestic capital in the Adana Hacı Sabancı Organized Industrial Zone and commenced production.
Specialty Polymer Production
In 2011, production of specialty polymers began alongside bottle-grade, textile-grade, and film-grade chips.
50,000-Ton Capacity
Additional investments made in 2013 increased the annual production capacity of the plasticizer plant to 50,000 tons.
Investment in Chemically Recycled rPET Resin
Meltem Kimya completed the world's first investment in rPET resin produced through chemical recycling. The product was approved by and commercialized with a global beverage company.
Manisa PET Packaging Plant
In 2015, production of PET packaging product groups resistant to temperatures of up to 95°C—another world first—began at the Manisa Akhisar Organized Industrial Zone.
MELPET Chemically Recycled rPET
As of 2018, MELPET chemically recycled rPET resin product groups had been approved and commercialized by numerous global packaging and beverage companies.
Annual Capacity of 50,000 Tons
Additional investments made in the rPET resin plant in 2019 increased its production capacity to 50,000 tons per year.
Investment Decision for a Second 108,000-Ton/Year Line
In 2021, to meet growing demand, an investment decision was made and construction began on a second line with a capacity of 108,000 tons per year alongside the existing rPET resin plant.
Annual Capacity of 158,000 Tons
In 2024, our second line, with a capacity of 108,000 tons per year, was commissioned, bringing the total capacity of the facility to 158,000 tons per year. This created the world's largest rPET resin production capacity at a single facility.
New Products
In response to growing demand for sustainable raw materials in the textile industry, Meltem Kimya completed the necessary upgrades at its existing facilities in 2025 and began producing high-quality polyester chips from textile waste using its advanced chemical recycling technology and industry expertise.
MELPOLIN™ Shrink product groups, which strengthen our presence in the packaging industry, were also added to our product portfolio. MELPOLIN™ offers PE-based packaging solutions for shrink film, pallet covers, and industrial protection applications.
EU Recognition for New Technology
With our chemical depolymerization technology developed in compliance with EU Regulation 2022/1616, we achieved significant global recognition from the European Commission. Meltem Kimya was recognized among 24 new technologies worldwide and became the only company outside the United Kingdom and the European Union to achieve this distinction.
